History:
WORLD CUP 2014
FIFA is once again organizing the football World Cup, a competition which joins all the national teams in the world in trying to qualify for the final stages of the tournament, which then crowns one nation as the World Champion - the current World Champions are Spain. The 2014 will be the 20th edition of the competition. The first edition of the World Cup was held in 1930 in Uruguay but a lot of European nations boycotted the competition on the grounds that it was not being held in Europe (football's birth place) and due to the long distance to travel by sea to arrive at the hosting venues (at least a month travel).
Since that edition the competition was held every four years with the exception of the 12 year period (1938-1950) of the Second World War. For the first nine editions (1930-1970) the price was the Rimet Cup, named after the father of the competition - Jules Rimet. In the 1970 the cup was won by Brazil for the third time and therefore they won the cup for ever. Since then a new cup was made - the FIFA cup.
This will be the second time that Brazil hosted the World Cup. The first hosted edition was the fourth one, in 1950. This edition will also be the seventh hosted in the South American continent, the last one being in Mexico in 1986. The continent with most hosted editions is Europe - ten editions (1934, 1938, 1954, 1958, 1966, 1974, 1982, 1990, 1998, 2006), whilst the other continents hosted one edition each: North America in 1994, Asia in 2002 and Africa in 2010. The only continent that never hosted a world cup is Australia.

It was selected from 47 different designs made by 6 different Brazilian agencies.
